When I was “younger” I dreamed of all kinds of luxurious beauty brands that I could never afford. Slowly through the years I expanded my beauty collection with Chanel, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent but there was still one brand left that was missing in my collection. La Mer is like the Bugatti of the cars, the Rolex of the watches and the Coster of the diamonds. So beautiful and high quality, but so far away from my bank account. Suddenly I received an email if I would like to receive a pretty box from La Mer with an ode to their vintage jar design. I was blown away and almost replied: did you send the mail to the right person? I couldn’t believe it! When I receive the package there was not one but two La Mer products inside! Oh my gosh, my life is complete now. Now, let’s see how this jar of money feels on my skin and if it’s worth your cash.
This limited edition Crème de La Mer has a cute vintage design which is one of their earliest jar design. It came in this is gigantic box that was presented as the sea. As soon as you opened the box, the sound of the ocean came out of the box. How amazing is that? There it was, not one but TWO Crème de La Mer jars! I could not believe my eyes. My little sister instantly searched on the internet how much one Crème de La Mer was and she was blown away. I’m the luckiest girl on earth.
What does it? “This luxuriously rich cream deeply soothes, moisturizes and helps heal dryness for a youthful, healthy-looking radiance. Visibly plumping and smoothing fine dry lines, skin looks naturally vibrant, restored to its healthiest-looking center.”.
Why the sea? Because one of the main ingredients of the Crème de La Mer is sea kelp. The sea kelp that is used in the La Mer is hand harvested twice a year, only when the timing is right!
Why the sound of waves? When I opened the gift box there was this relaxation. From the box there was a sounds of waves coming out of it. Dr. Huber who made this miracle, found out that the sounds of the waves changes the sea kelp in something stronger, he named it Miracle Broth.
What’s the secret? The Miracle Broth soothes and energizes the skin while cells are renewing themselves. This makes gives the skin a natural, healthy-looking radiance.
Past & Present – The two jars are the reflection of La Mer. The past in this limited edition vintage design and the present in their iconic and nowadays reflection as how we know the brand. The past is my favorite because I’m a vintage lover and the look of the jar is just gorgeous to me. The present gives it a more modern look and shows clearly what it stands for.
I’m happy that the jar is not made out of plastic. It is glass and the heavy lid really makes it feel more luxurious. You know, that sounds when you open a nice jar of pickles are that glass cookie jar? It makes the same sound and it gives me the happy goosebumps haha!
The scent of the moisturizer has something special: a soft smell with a hint of freshness and purity. It has everything that reminds you of anything expensive. I didn’t expect something different from La Mer because I already heard from others that they loved the fragrance of the beautiful moisturizer. Somehow I was searching for something that had a connection with the seaweed but I couldn’t smell it. It is just a beautiful soft scent and the words “fresh”, “pure” and “clean” comes up in my mind.
When I opened the jar I saw this thick consistency that almost looked solid. I received a spatula with the jar and I think you can better scoop the product out of it with the spatula. Many of your are too lazy to grab it, but I just want to warn you that if you don’t use a spatula you better wash your hands! I would not even dare to stick my fingers in this expensive moisturizer and that it might get bad because you didn’t clean your hands. A spatula is also a great way to scoop out the perfect amount of product out of the jar.
When I scooped the product with the spatula I instantly felt that it was a thick rich cream. I applied it on the back of my hand to see the texture and it was quite thick, almost waxy feeling. I warmed the product between my fingers until it became smooth and applied it softly on my face. Focussing on the dry spots and around me eyes and mouth, where all the fine lines are. Even tho I only used a small amount, it was a super rich cream and I might like it more during the evening because it gives your skin so much moisture. I have super oily skin, so I can better use this as a night cream instead day.
As a night cream this moisturizer does magical stuff to my skin. Even when I use this moisturizer on its own before I go to bed, I wake up with this radiant and even skin tone. My face looks flawless (except for my scars and acne) and super hydrated. The hydration level is insane and I honestly think that when you applied this the night before, your skin only needs a great essence or serum to get through the day.
For day this cream is a bit too heavy for my skin. I did try it a few times but my oily skin can’t handle this amount of hydration during the day. It makes my skin look super oily and shiny.
I’ve heard that many people think that the Nivea is a dupe of the La Mer, but I honestly think that there is a big difference in the quality of the ingredients. Dr. Max Hubert studied years and years how he could develop the best ingredients for the La Mer and that is nothing compared to the Nivea. So there is always a difference, especially when it comes to skincare and their studies.
Overall I’m so in love with the Crème de La Mer, but on the other side I’m so afraid. The results are everything that I was hoping for and it even surprised me. For people with dry skin this might be their holy grail product. It gives your skin an amazing boost of hydration, but it also instantly plumps your face. I want to bet that you will see a difference in your skin texture. My skin looks amazing when I applied it the night before. When I wake up the texture of my skin has changed a lot an it looks more radiant and even. The application is wonderful because you only need a small amount to cover your face and neck. Just warm it up between your fingers and start massaging your face. What I’m afraid of is that it is kinda expensive. I would not pay €285,- for a jar of moisturizer, with that amount I can do the grocery for a whole month. I wouldn’t mind if someone gave me this as a gift!
Did you ever tried something from La Mer? Or what would you like to try?
*pr gift
€285,- sounds way too much for any beauty product (personally), but I wouldn’t mind trying a travel or a mini size of the Creme de La Mer. I’ve heard it helps with people with eczema as it’s so moisturizing. My dry skin might love a version of this famous cream, so I need to ask a sample when I walk past my local counter. La Mer’s makeup is also so tempting! You certainly are a lucky gal, An 😉
