It is time for another Jeffree Star Cosmetics review: the Velour Liquid Lipsticks in the colors Androgyny and Leo! Yes, it was about time that I talk about these beauty’s. I was really late with purchasing these two items because I was not sure about the formula, but I was so wrong. In the meanwhile I got 3 more Liquid Lipstick from Jeffree Star in the colors Gemini, Designer Blood and Pumpkin Pie (the last two are from his Holiday Collection). If you want to see a review about those 3, let me know! But for now, let’s get started with the Androgyny and Leo!
Jeffree Star Cosmetics is created bij Jeffree Star himself. He is a big name in de makeup world at the moment with his beautiful pink makeup products (and also negative attention around the whole Kat Von D issue). When he was a little boy he always wanted to create his own makeup line. He used to work in de fashion industry and worked with big names. Now he finally achieved his big dream and started his own makeup line which is cruelty-free! Lately I try to pay more attention to the products I use on my face and if they are tested on animals (I watched several documentaries on National Geographic with pain in my heart).
Androgyny .. Be warned: this shade might be your new obsession 😉 Sultry, plum mauve, matte and extremely addicting.
Leo .. Inspired after Nathan’s zodiac sign 😀 True matte honey brown.
Our liquid lipstick goes on opaque, dries completely matte and stays on for hours! This product is 100% vegan & cruelty-free!(tips before use: exfoliate with lip scrub then apply to bare lips! Avoid food with oil… and no making out, kisses are ok!)
Also: Paraben & Gluten-Free / 0.19 oz.

The packaging of the Velour Liquid Lipstick are iconic for the whole Jeffree Star line: pink with gold letters and stars. I love how simple but somehow chic this packaging looks like. It took a long time before I throw the box away where the lipstick was stored in, because even that looked so pretty in my acrylic makeup organizer! Also, the gold letters don’t fade away after many times using the lipstick and throwing it in and out of my bag, compared to the Colourpop lipsticks which disappear within 2 weeks!
I picked up the color Androgyny because this was THE hit when Jeffree Star launched his lipsticks! His first and most high sold lipsticks. It is a beautiful mauve purple shade which is great for everyday I think. I have a weakness lately for mauve shades! Don’t get me wrong but this shade kinda looks like the Lolita from Kat Von D (which is funny because they have some issues now).
Leo is one of his newer shades which launched a few months ago. I was not really sure if I needed this color because I have a similar one from Kylie Cosmetics in Ginger, but I had to try it out! Luckily they don’t look the same at all. This color as an orange/terracotta finish in the packaging but Jeffree Star describes it as a honey brown, hmmm we have to see.
I think the Velour Liquid Lipsticks have the most fluffy brush tip in the whole world! The fibers on these tips are so soft and longer than the usual liquid lipstick tip, which can be seen as something negative or positive. On the positive side, I experience that you don’t need to dip your tip in the tube to get new product out of it. This tip holds so much product that you can apply your lipstick in one session! On the negative side, I do find it a little bit hard to shape my lips because it is so fluffy. You tend to make less strong/neat lined. But don’t get sad instantly, just use a lipliner if you are insecure!
So this is how Androgyny and Leo looks like, few seconds after I applied them. They will turn a little bit darker but it doesn’t really change the whole look of these colors. First of all, the Velour Liquid Lipstick doesn’t have a weird smell. It really has a neutral fragrance so great for people with a sensitive nose. The first 10 minutes after you applied the liquid lipstick it may feel a bit wet/sticky. I have the feeling it really takes a long time before this liquid lipsticks has really dried up, but it still feels velvet to me instead of matte.
When you eat or drink this liquid lipstick will leave a stain behind. For some people it may be great because they don’t like the super dry matte feeling on their lips, but for me I prefer liquid lipsticks that don’t stain. Oh well, it still feels great on my lips after wearing it for a whole day because it isn’t totally matte.
Big thumps up for reapplying this liquid lipstick! With a lot of other brands I experience that my lips look dry and cracked after I reapply it. With the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick you don’t even have to think about this problem! It really blends beautiful with your first layer and it looks like you just re-applied your whole lipstick.
Overall I’m really happy with both shades! When I just received them I used them on and off, that’s how pretty they are (even for everyday/office look .. well I did it). After I got these shades I had to purchase a few more, loving these as you may noticed. In my opinion these liquid lipsticks are quiet affordable for what you get and I see Jeffree Star’s line as almost high-end, I’m really happy with the quality! The packaging, the product, the range of colors .. you got me!
I can’t say that these are my favorite liquid lipsticks because I prefer a matte finish, while these really feel velvet matte to me. They still leave a stain behind when you eat or drink, even hours after you applied it. For some people this may be their best liquid lipstick because they hate the matte/dry finish, but this doesn’t stop me from using these pretty colors!
I can recommend everyone these liquid lipsticks when you are looking for a velvet matte finish that doesn’t dry out your lips. The Velour Lipstick line contains many unique and beautiful shades, enough for everyone and every taste! Also, the entire line of Jeffree Star is cruelty-free and 100% vegan! Totally safe as you can see, you can even use the liquid lipstick as a eyeliner. I will definitely repurchase these lipsticks, I even ordered a few more shades!
Which shade is your favorite from the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks line?
