Kiehl’s Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate

Kiehl’s Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate

Hii everyone!

It’s been a few months since I’ve purchased Kiehl’s Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate, but I can finally give you an honest review on it now! It took me quite a long time to find out if this product works for me because I combined it with several other new products. This is Kiehl’s newest product which is now available worldwide. I’ve been a big Kiehl’s lover for a very long time so I couldn’t miss purchasing this item! I purchased it immediately after the launch in the Netherlands. Kiehl’s products have been very effective on my skin so far. Let’s get started!

When I need a new skincare routine or want to try something that doesn’t harm my skin, I like to check out Kiehl’s flagship store in Amsterdam. The products are gentle on my skin, so I never experienced any problems with them. When Kiehl’s launched the Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate I already knew I had to try it! I am a big fan of overnight exfoliators and peelings and would do anything to make my skin renew within a short amount of time!

What does the Kiehl’s Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate?

Kiehl’s Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate is a gentle exfoliator to use at night after your cleansing/toner and before your serum/moisturizer.

Kiehl’s claims that you will notice that your skin is softer and more radiant the next day after one use. After one week you will see that the skin texture will be refined and the skin tone evened out. It will have improved the quality of the skin and fine lines after four weeks.

The main ingredients are Quinoa Husk Extract, Cactus Extract and Phytic Acid. Quinoa increases the cell turnover of the skin surface area, Cactus helps protect the skin against damage and Phytic Acid stimulates the exfoliation process. It also contains alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) which is known for helping the skin renew. This ingredient makes your skin more vulnerable to the sun, so make sure to use sunscreen when using the Micro-Peel (or use sunscreen in your daily routine like I do!).

The packaging is the first thing of the product that I’d like to discuss. I love the simplicity and clear packaging of Kiehl’s: it reminds me of a modern pharmacy, especially when I walk into their store to find the staff wearing its sexy white coats! The box contains the 30ml bottle with the concentrate and the glass dropper. This product only comes in a 30 ml bottle, unlike the famous Midnight Recovery Concentrate which comes in three sizes. I don’t mind, because you only need a few drops to make it work!

The glass dropper is really user-friendly. I love it when brands use this dropper to really control the amount you want to apply on your face. When I removed the cap from the bottle, I smelled something amazing. I am terrible at describing scents (that’s why I will never review perfume) but it was pleasant (I think it is quinoa I was smelling), not something that will stop you from using this product.

The consistency of the product is fluid but a bit thicker than water. It has a yellow glow which might be caused by the ingredients and the quinoa husk extract. When you apply it to your face, the extent to which it’ll be sticky depends on the amount you’ve applied. My problem at the beginning (and the reason why it took so long to write this review, sorry!) was that I used too much product on my face. It felt sticky and I felt like it didn’t soak into my skin, WHICH WAS MY FAULT!

When I finally realized I had to use the product in a different way, I noticed a big change in the condition of my skin! I started to use four drops on the cheeks, forehead and neck after cleaning my face and using toner. I massage it into the skin and when my skin feels less sticky after the skin absorbs the product, I start applying my moisturizer or my Midnight Recovery Concentrate. Kiehl’s suggests using this combination because 96% of the customers said their skin felt more supple after one week because of it! I loved this combination and noticed a big difference because of it, but I don’t like the feeling of layers on my skin, so I’ve been using the Micro-Peel without any moisturizer or oil.

Oh man, I love this product so much! I own several other exfoliating products or toners that contain AHA, but depending on the condition of my skin I end up with dry patches in the morning or red spots because my skin can be sensitive sometimes. I haven’t experienced any of those symptoms after using the Micro-Peel! I wake up in the morning with soft skin like a baby bum and a radiant glow! After one week I noticed that weird bumps nearby my eye disappeared (!) and after four weeks my skin looked really different. I didn’t have any weird red spots on my face in the morning, it looked more even and the condition of my skin was stable (even when I was on my period). In short, the Micro-Peel is the most amazing gentle exfoliator I’ve ever used!

I can’t say it will be my Holy Grail item yet because I’ve only used 1/4 of the bottle, but the results have been good so far and I didn’t experience any bad symptoms. The only downside of this product is that it takes time for the product to soak into your skin, or you could decide to massage the product into the skin, which also takes time (which I haven’t got! By the time I apply my skincare, I’m semi-asleep).

I can recommend the Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate to people who have sensitive skin but still want to try using a gentle exfoliator. If you use an AHA toner or peeling, you’ll get the desired results. Again, this is a gentle micro-peeling so  don’t expect your scars to disappear within a month. If I finish the bottle, I will definitely repurchase it (as well as my favorite Midnight Recovery Concentrate)!

A big thanks to the team of Kiehl’s Kalverstraat for always being lovely and providing me with many samples to try!

You can purchase your own Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate for €53,- ($54-) at your nearby Kiehl’s store!

Have you read my other Kiehl’s reviews?

Thanks a lot for reading x

Ooh, this product sounds very interesting! I have soo many acne scars – it’s probably my main skincare concern at the moment, so I’m constantly on the look out for brightening products. I have a bit of a backlog of serums to try but I’ll keep this one on my radar!

Hmmm hard to say because this product has already a high risk of damaging your skin so your really have to use SPF at daytime. I think you can better ask you doctor if this combination would be good for you skintype.

Maybe exfoliate your face lightly and than using this concentrate? OR what I love to do is using a serum or comcentrate and than apply sheetmask!

How awesome! I suffer from adult hormonal acne and my skin texture isn’t the best. This nightly micro-peel seems gentle enough to get me the results I want. Thanks for sharing! x
